WebSep 22, 2009 · The coil is 12V 1.5 ohms and the instructions say no resistor is needed. Is that right? If so why ??.................................. Actually this is a case where a system with a ballast resistor is always better with points ignition. You are better off using a coil designed for a ballast resistor. WebSep 23, 2005 · Since a typical ballast resistor has about 1.5 ohms resistance, I surmise the following: (1) The 1.5 ohm coil is for use in cars with a ballast resistor; (2) The 3.0 ohm coil is for use in cars without a ballast resistor. I do caution that this is merely an educated guess on my part, but it is one I'd rely upon if it were my car.
